Anyways. When he graduated 2 years ago, he got some money for graduation from people who love him and were proud of him. Let me also mention that I married a saver, Thank the Lord. Joel is not a spender, he thinks through purchases and does not make impulse buys. I am so thankful for that. He has been saving this money (in its own account) until he found just the right thing he wanted.
About a year and a half ago, he found a surfboard he liked. Joel surfed some in Hawaii, but was just learning. He was trying to learn on a short board...and in Hawaii. Thats a tough combination. Since moving to NC, he has become a great surfer. The hard part about surfing here is the waves. Most days you need a long board and Joel just isn't really a long boarder.
Enter the Whiskey Fish.
Joel started learning about this locally-made board and that you can surf using it in almost all waves, which is perfect for NC. So, we visited the store where they sold them, we visited the shop where they make them, then back to the store, and back to the store, and so on. Remember, no quick decisions for my Hubby.
Finally, after a year and a half of looking and looking (at mostly the same surfboard), Joel is hte proud owner of a custom Whiskey fish. His graduation present from 2008. He chose the paint job, colors, etc. and we love it! He cannot wait to get it out in the water, but for now, since its so pretty..its home is right behind our kitchen table to be admired by all :-).
