House Renovation Part 2

When we moved into the home that we love so much, we pretty much saw a blank slate of opportunity. We knew it would take a while, but some small things would make a big impact. The main impact I'm wanting right now is wall color! The color on the walls is a combination of off white and mauve, or to me, a color that makes me want to throw up!

We started in on the ever daunting task of paint chips. Why do they make them so small? You really can't tell the color from such a small area if your an amateur, which I definitely am.

We were going back and forth between a soft blue and a yellow. We didn't want the blue to feel like a nursery because we're using it on our entire living and kitchen areas, and didn't want the yellow to feel overly warm because, well, it gets hot here. We decided to hunt for a blue. We'd been heading to lowes over and over to check the oops paint counter, with no luck. We finally decided to stop at a free standing Sherwin Williams store. Our salesman was very helpful and was able to direct us to exactly what we're looking for and luckily the store bathroom was painted in the color we liked so we could see it at its darkest in an area with no windows.

We got a huge sample for $4.25, totally worth it, and went to town painting different sections of walls to make sure it looked good in different areas of light. That sample was totally worth it and covered so much area. You can see the sample can in the picture. It kept going and there is still some left!

We love the color and are going to go with it. We decided to buy the Harmony Interior paint, which has no VOC's, low odor, and is water based. The price is about the same as regular paint from the big stores, so we're going with it.

Now its time to tape and paint for real! I can't wait to see the finished product and not want to throw up whenever I look at our walls :-)!
